Beau Jos pizza in Idaho Springs is a great place for mountain pizza pies. Order one with extra thick crust and drizzle it with honey. Y'all can try the Challenge if you fancy, and sketch on your napkins so your art can join their walls. This was 15 years ago, but I hope it's still there! As for music, anything from Boulder's own Big Head Todd & the Monsters - 'Broken Hearted Savior' is a good start, with 'Bittersweet' a good road track. I'm jealous!!!

Boulder is chock full of pro athletes, cyclists and triathletes - why on earth would you promote a serial cheat and someone who denied it until he realised he could profit from it? And the article was about Boulder, not doping in cycling. I thought he'd have something interesting things to say about Boulder, having lived there for 20 years.

Look up The Great Divide Brewery. It is only open until 8 though. We went to Denver as the starting point for a train trip to San Francisco and regretting only spending a night there.
Btw the tourist information centre in LoDo was really good and full of good tips.

Leadville, sign repainted Deadville when I was there a couple of years ago, is an ex mining town which has definitely seen better days, it even has an Opera House. On 285 you get to Fairplay which is allegedly the town on which South Park was based. from FairPlay you could stay on 285 or 9 up through Breckenridge. From Breck you could take the Boreas pass (only open in Summer) back on to 285 as a fun detour.

I'd also agree with JennS29 below, Potager is great, they also feature a lot of Colorado wine. Along the same line Fruition on 6th does the whole local food thing, they have their own farm somewhere outside the city.

On 1201 E. Colfax, Irish Snug is home to my absolute favorite Hot Toddy and Shepherd's Pie. Saturdays, they often have large-piece bands bustling Irish jigs and the like, as well as a full, chatty patio of people from the hood. Great people watching spot, was my neighborhood pub when I lived in Denver. I always make it a point to visit when I'm in town! Cheers.

My dad used to take me here in the 80s when it was the old tramway building, and the interior was a dark, dusty cavern turned over to old timers who built their own model railways. I can still smell the dust and oil.
My Brother's Bar is around the corner, though. It's harks back to being a saloon in the 1880s. No sign, ask for directions.

It is a replica of Bent's Fort - one of the earliest establishments for the "mountain men" in the southern part of the state. I have to agree with others that you simply must go to a brewery: Denver Brewery and Great Divide Brewery are both quite close to where you'll be.

Hit up the Wynkoop in LoDo. It's Denver's oldest, but as other comments here BTL seem to say, others may be better. Still, you can't but take a bite out of history when in Denver, I say!
Try your best to find some line dancing, too. It's Friday. Why not? You'll find some, I'm sure. There's always the Grizzly Rose or the Stampede if you get desperate.

The colors of the landscape in Utah and Colorado are nothing short of amazing, but they were ruined by the Instagram effects used on this blog. It made what could have been amazing images look like muddy Polaroids. That may have been the point, but it feels like kitchy graffiti defacing otherwise awesome images.

Situated just across the block from the Union Station in the old business district in one of those big old brown brick industrial buildings.
Superb craftmanship on display, and if you're lucky an impromptu tour of the premises. He's probably retired now, but the man who showed me round in 2008 was an old Native American who had made many of the saddles seen in the various western films and TV shows. He had made several for John Wayne, for both screen and personal use. His personal scrapbook was a virtual who's who of Hollywood going back to the early 50s.
They made everyday working saddles right through to the hugely expensive rodeo show saddles, and all the various riding accessories. I'm no 'horsey type, but admire true craftmanship.
I bought a book there, The Rancher's Guide to Knots, Bends and Hitches. originally written in the early 1900s, very useful if you ever kill a large deer and after cleaning it, need to carry it on horseback for any distance, or need to secure a heavy load on the camping trailer for the drive to Cornwall.

I love the Southwest, especially the Slickrock (that's the sandstone you guys talked about) deserts of Utah. Too bad you missed Telluride, CO and Tesla's first electric power plant.
Next time, spend a week in New Mexico and make Santa Fe your home base. Rent a condo at the end of May, before the summer rates kick in - the weather is still great. Check out Valles Caldera to see what the remains of a major volcano becomes. Visit Los Alamos and an Indian Pueblo or two. Take the train down to Albuquerque and visit the Natural History Museum, the Indian Museum and Old Town. Budget at least a day, or maybe two for Museum Hill in Santa Fe and Santa Fe's Old Town.
Europeans tend not to appreciate the size of the US.
